September 09. 2023 UPDATE 8th Grade T-Shirt Pick Up Thursday, June 18th and 8th Grade Parade Friday, June 19th Only one week left of the school year! Here are the final details about the year-end plans for the 8th graders:
8th Grade T-Shirt Pick Up - T-shirts will be available to pick up on Thursday, June 18thfrom 4:00-6:00pm at TJ, so students can wear them to the parade on Friday. There will be a drive-thru and a walk-up option available (see map below). A free t-shirt has been ordered for every 8th grade student, even if you did not submit a size request. Each student will also receive a gift certificate for a free shave ice at Tropical Sno! You can have a friend pick up your shirt if you are unable to come on Thursday. To speed up the drive-thru process, please have a sign with your student's name in the front window of your vehicle and the sign can also be used for the drive-thru parade the following day.
8th Grade Celebration Drive-Thru Parade - Please plan to attend the 8th grade celebration drive-thru parade for all 8th grade students and their families on Friday, June 19thfrom 1:00-3:00pm. Per the school's email, the TJ staff will line the school parking lot to cheer on and say goodbye to the students, and each student will receive a certificate of completion. Cars will enter the parking lot using the entrance between Felida and TJ, will then follow the parent pick up loop, and exit the parking lot closest to the front entrance of TJ. Students are encouraged to wear their 8th grade t-shirts and decorate their cars (e.g. signs, window paint, streamers, balloons).
Please remember the school's instruction that all students and familiesmust remain in their vehicles. Students may NOT ride their bikes or walk the parade route.
Legacy Gift - The Class of 2020 legacy gift will be a bench that will be placed on TJ's campus. The bench will be engraved with the message, "IN A WORLD WHERE YOU CAN BE ANYTHING... BE KIND! TJMS CLASS OF 2020". This gift will be purchased using funds raised during the Candy Gram sale that was held in February of this year. Below is a picture of the bench.
Class Tree- Every year, a portion of the 8th grade committee funds are used to purchase a tree that is planted on TJ's school grounds in honor of the graduating 8th graders. The Class of 2020's tree has been planted on the south side of TJ and a post with a plaque will be installed next to it during the summer. Thank you to the staff at TJ that helped to get this year's tree planted. Below is a picture of the tree. We hope to see all 8th grade students/families on Thursday, June 18th for t-shirt pick up and on Friday, June 19th for the parade!
********************************************************************************************** 2023-2024 The 8th Grade committee and the school are continuing to work on the plan to recognize and celebrate our 8th graders. The current plan includes the following:
T-Shirts - Each 8th grader will get a free class T-shirt. More details to come.
Legacy Gift- Each 8th grade class leaves a gift for the school. We are working with the school to determine the gift that would be the most beneficial. Once we have selected the gift, we will let you know what it will be. This gift will be purchased using the funds raised during the Candy Gram sale that was held in February of this year.
2023-2024 UPDATE ATTENTION TJMS 8th Grade Parents and Students! The TJMS PTSA 8th Grade Party Committee helps plan the 8th Grade Year End Party. There are many components of this celebration that you need to know about!
Year End Party Each year the PTSA - with the support of the 8th Grade parents - plan a Year End Party. The party takes place after the 8th Grade ceremony, on the last day of school, currently set for (TBD). The party consists of food, music, games and time to hang out with friends.
Class T-Shirts The PTSA holds a T-Shirt design contest where 8th Grade students submit designs, and then the class is presented with a few options and casts a vote for their favorite. T-Shirts are handed out typically in May, so 8th Graders can wear their T-Shirt to school and on the last day if they wish. Every 8th Grade student gets a free shirt.
Legacy Gift Each year the 8th Grade class also has an option to leave a Legacy Gift to the school depending on funds available from the fundraising efforts. The committee works with the school and students to select the gift.
Fundraising To support all these 8th grade activities, fundraising events are held each year.
One event is an all-school Candy Gram Sales, typically held for four days ending on Valentines Day, Feb. 14th. 💕 TOTAL SALES = 💕 Amazing! 💕 DAY 1 SALES = DAY 2 SALES = DAY 3 SALES = DAY 4 SALES =
Volunteering If you are interested in volunteering to help plan the 8th Grade Year End Party, please contact [email protected]. A Signup Genius will also be sent out in April/May to request volunteers for the party on the last day of school.
REMINDER: If you volunteer during school hours, you must have volunteer clearance. http://vansd.org/volunteer/ VSD has a new digital system that allows Washington residents, in most cases, same day clearance service: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/NTY1OmVuLVVT If you are unsure if you are cleared, please check with the school office.
